Madison is a short trip from our Decatur store

Johnston RV Center does not have a store in Madison, but the city sits along I-565 between Huntsville and Decatur, which puts our Decatur store a short drive west. That makes it one of the easiest RV trips in the area. The Cullman store is farther south on I-65 and is worth the extra miles when the unit you want is parked there. Store details are on our Decatur RV dealership page and Cullman RV dealership page.

Johnston describes itself as a small family business, with sales, service and parts at each store. In October 2026 the combined inventory leaned heavily toward towables, with travel trailers far ahead of fifth wheels, toy haulers and destination trailers, and new units outnumbering used ones.

Campers and travel trailers near Madison

Travel trailers make up most of the Johnston inventory. Start with travel trailers near Madison, the wider campers near Madison page, or Forest River campers and travel trailers near Madison.

A tip we share with a lot of Madison families: buy for the trips you take most, not the one you dream about. If your weekends are a night or two within an hour of home, a mid-size trailer that hitches and sets up quickly will see much more use than a long rig. If longer trips are the plan, weigh storage, tank sizes and a comfortable bed more heavily than tow weight.

Your hitch setup matters as much as the trailer. Set the brake controller for the loaded weight, and ask whether the trailer you like calls for a weight distribution hitch, which levels the tow vehicle and steadies the trailer in crosswinds on I-565 and I-65. Before your first long trip, practice backing and turning in an empty lot so the first campsite does not become a lesson in front of an audience.

Fifth wheels, toy haulers and destination trailers

Compare fifth wheels near Madison from Riverstone, Sandpiper and Rockwood Signature. Riders can browse toy haulers near Madison. Buyers who want a camper parked at one site for the season should look at destination trailers, and motorhomes near Madison lists any motorized units available.

Before you choose: compare your tow vehicle's capacity and payload with the trailer's GVWR and hitch weight. Our towing guide explains each rating.

A year of RV care for Madison owners

North Alabama has hot summers and real winter freezes, so RV maintenance follows the calendar. This is the rhythm that keeps repair bills low.

Spring
De-winterize, sanitize the water system and test every appliance before the first trip.
Summer
Clean AC filters often and run the AC at home before each trip so problems show up early.
Fall
Check roof sealant and window seals and book repairs before the busy winterizing season.
Winter
Winterize before the first hard freeze, cover tires and keep batteries on a maintainer.

The Johnston service and parts center works on all makes and models and handles winterization, de-winterization, roof sealant inspections, wheel bearing and generator service, slide-out and awning work, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, refrigerator and water heater repair, inspections, and upgrades like solar, lithium batteries, backup cameras and Starlink. Service runs weekdays from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM and Saturday mornings until noon.

RV Warranty Forever for Madison owners

Every new and qualifying pre-owned RV from Johnston includes RV Warranty Forever at no added cost. It covers 100% of parts and labor on listed components, with no deductible, for as long as you own the RV. Covered systems include brakes, suspension, the water system, kitchen appliances, LP gas, heating and the coach air conditioner.

To keep it active, complete the annual maintenance in your agreement at a professional repair facility, report it within 30 days of your purchase anniversary, and get covered repairs authorized before work starts. Owner-performed maintenance does not qualify. With the Decatur service department so close to Madison, most owners simply book the annual visit there.

Ask whether a specific used unit qualifies for Warranty Forever before you sign, and keep every repair order together. Missing the annual service is an easy way to lose the coverage.

New, used, financing and trade-ins

Both stores carry pre-owned units next to new inventory. A new RV gives you current floor plans, full factory coverage and Warranty Forever from day one. A used RV costs less, but its condition depends on how it was stored, so check floors, roof seams, slides, appliances and tire date codes, and ask for service records. Browse new RVs, used RVs and RVs under $20,000.

The finance department lists repayment schedules of up to 15 to 20 years and lets you roll parts, service and extended protection into the loan depending on the amount. Start with the online credit application. Settle on a total price first, then the payment, since longer terms add interest.

If you own an RV now, the trade-in and consignment page offers a quote within 24 hours, a cash offer with no purchase required, or consignment with photos, marketing, showings and storage handled by Johnston. Check specials, clearance and the deal of the week too.

Mistakes Madison buyers can skip

Most RV regrets trace back to a few avoidable choices. These are the ones we see most.

Skipping the call ahead
Confirm the unit is on the lot before you drive to Decatur.
Buying at the limit
Leave a margin below your tow rating for grades, heat and wind.
Shopping by photos
Walk at least three layouts in person before deciding.
Forgetting storage
Check HOA rules and line up a storage spot first.
Missing annual service
It shortens the RV's life and can end Warranty Forever.
No walkthrough video
Record the delivery orientation. Pet owners can start with the pet-friendly RV list.

RV buying FAQs for Madison shoppers

Is there an RV dealership near Madison, AL?+

Johnston RV Center serves Madison from its Decatur store at 3504 Deere Rd. SE, a short drive west on I-565, and from a second store in Cullman. Both sell new and used travel trailers, fifth wheels, toy haulers and destination trailers, with financing, trade-ins, service and parts on site.

How do I get from Madison to Johnston RV Center in Decatur?+

Head west on I-565 toward Decatur, then follow your map to 3504 Deere Rd. SE. The store is open for sales Monday through Friday from 8:30 AM to 6:00 PM and Saturday from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM. Call (256) 353-8712 before you leave to confirm the unit you want.

What camper is good for a first-time family?+

Many first-time families start with a bunkhouse travel trailer, which gives kids their own sleeping area and tows behind a properly rated half-ton pickup. Pick a model that leaves a comfortable margin below your towing capacity, and walk through it with the whole family before buying.

When should I winterize my RV in North Alabama?+

Winterize before the first hard freeze if the RV will sit unused, which in North Alabama usually means late fall. Draining the water system and adding RV antifreeze protects lines and fittings from cracking. Johnston's service department offers complete winterization and spring de-winterization, so you can schedule both visits ahead of time.

Does Warranty Forever cover used RVs?+

RV Warranty Forever is included with every new RV and with qualifying pre-owned RVs from Johnston RV Center, at no added cost. Not every used unit qualifies, so ask about the specific RV. Coverage continues as long as you complete the required annual maintenance at a professional repair facility.

Can I sell my camper to Johnston RV Center without buying one?+

Yes. Johnston RV Center offers a cash offer option with no new purchase required. Submit your camper's details and photos on the trade-in page for a quote, which the dealership aims to send within 24 hours, then bring it in for inspection. Consignment is also available if you want to try for a higher price.
